RIP Pat Burns (1952-2010)

19 11 2010

When his passing was announced a few weeks ago, Pat Burns himself contacted TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, to let it be known that he was still with us.

Sadly, that is no longer the case.

Pat Burns, the only NHL coach to win the Jack Adams award for NHL coach of the year three times, has died after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 58.

His coaching career took Pat through a number of cities, including a stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs, as well as Newark, New Jersey, where he led the New Jersey Devils to a Stanley Cup title.

Here is his obituary, from the TSN.ca website.

My thoughts go out to Pat’s family.

Rest in peace, Pat. And thank you for what you’ve done for hockey.
